Heartbreak Reads - A Week's Worth of Weepies

Read

Though I read some Hemingway ages ago, I was surprised to find that there is something of his that is identified with heartbreak. Because he tends to be identified with the 'macho'.

However, male heartbreak has its place and who better than Hemingway to enlighten us. Among other things. His Ten Indians might also smack of racism today.

Listen

One well versed in heartbreak is wont to appreciate sonnets and couplets about this pain and this selection covers something old, something new - I hope not something borrowed - and a lot of blue.

“Never Give All the Heart” by W. B. Yeats

“The More Loving One” by W. H. Auden

“Be Near Me” by Faiz Ahmed Faiz

Browse

Suggestions from oprah.com range from regulars on most heartbreak reads lists to some that are totally new to me. Refreshing takes are always welcome and it is true that each writer has at least one reader.

"If you could describe your breakup in six words, what would you say?"

"Fifty-eight women share their hilarious tales"
"Two divorces, six children and one fabulous wardrobe"

The next three books have film versions.

Bridget Jones - seen the film. Book? I doubt I'd go after it but it might be a great read to go by the film.

"classic chick lit"

I've yet to read/see Eat, Pray, Love and have no idea why this is so :).
Should I put it on some 'want to watch' list?

"pleasure (and pizza) in Italy, peace in India and love in Bali."

High Fidelity
By Nick Hornby

"John Cusack in the movie adaptation"

"a cynical breakup tale told from the male perspective."

Well, that's that for today. Tomorrow brings nine books to soothe a broken heart, 30 break-up songs as well as one very tragic short story.
